Sloppy Joe Recipe
There are so many great dishes I make when I buy ground beef in bulk. One of them is this recipe I found for Sloppy Joe Sandwiches. My family just loves these. We serve it with out homemade coleslaw and homemade pickles.... we'll have to add those recipes in the near future!
Ingredients:
1 pound ground beef
1 onion, chopped
1 cup ketchup
4 tablespoons water
2 tablespoon brown sugar
2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoon prepared mustard (yellow)
2 teaspoon white vinegar
2 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
hamburger buns
Directions:
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and stir in ground beef and onion. Cook and stir until beef is crumbly, evenly browned, and no longer pink, about 10 minutes. Drain and discard any excess grease. Stir in ketchup, water, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, vinegar, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt.
Bring beef mixture to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer until sauce has thickened, 30 to 40 minutes. Serve on buns.
My changes:
I use 3 tablespoons of water. It makes it thicker. When I use 90% lean ground beef I don't drain the mixture before adding all of the other ingredients.
I noticed in the comments on the recipe page that people made alterations such as adding chili sauce, garlic and green peppers.
